A batter is considered out when his or her feet are not fully inside the batting box before the ball has been struck or, while making a run, they are on the inside of the post. It also happens when a fielder, or the ball the fielder has thrown, reaches the post before the batter, or if they are caught out, or if the batter deliberately blocks a fielder, overtakes another batter or moves from a post before the ball has been thrown.
