Contestants are expected to wear a white karate-gi. One must wear a red belt on top of the belt and the other a white belt. They must both have an identification sign on their karate-gis. Competitors are allowed to wear a gum shield, boxes or soft shin pads, but protective or safety devices can be used only permitted by the referee council.
