Wings

In soccer, the wings are the areas of the field on the far sides, near the touchlines. The players who play on the wings are typically referred to as wingers.

Wingers are attacking players who are responsible for providing width to the team’s attack and for delivering crosses into the opposition’s penalty area. They often receive the ball out wide on the flanks and look to dribble past their opponents or pass the ball into the center of the field for their teammates to attack. Wingers are also expected to track back and help defend when their team loses possession. The wings are an important part of a team’s attacking strategy and can be a source of goals and assists for the team.
