Bout
The term given to the match that takes place between the two contestants. A bout ends when a winner has been declared by the referee.
Until a recent rule change, this was a player who came on merely to hit short corners. This is no longer permissible in the rules.
This varies according to the standard of the match. In Test Match cricket, each side has two innings over a five-day period, each day’s play lasting for approximately six hours (see above).
