Definition

In pack-style racing, skaters are awarded five points for first, three points for second, two points for third and one point for fourth place. In Olympic-style racing, the winner is determined by the fastest time, and the points are the sum of the equivalent time for 500m, calculated to the third decimal point. The champion is the skater with the fewest points.
