Pyramid

(Sport: Snooker)

Definition

The 15 reds are formed into a triangle of five rows at the start of the game, with one red at the top of the pyramid and five at the bottom. The cue ball must strike the pyramid to get the game under way. Skilled players often strike the cue ball with heavy side-spin at the start of a frame, so that it rolls past the pyramid of reds and spins back behind the base of the pyramid to gently split the reds leaving very few options for their opponent.
