Differential penalty

(Sport: Rugby League)

Definition

Awarded when a foul has been committed by a player and the referee awards a penalty to the opposing team. The kicker will drop kick the ball downfield toward the opposition goal. This differs from a penalty kick in that a goal cannot be scored directly from this kind of penalty.
