(Sport: Highland Games)

Definition

For sprint events, the starter's orders are: "Get to your marks", "Get set", and "Go", the last of which will be signaled by the shot of a pistol. Any competitor who goes over the mark with hands or feet when under starter's orders will be penalized. For all races up to and including the 437yd the penalty is to be put back 3.3ftm, for the 875ydm the penalty is 6.5ft and for the one mile the penalty is 16ft. If a second offense is committed, then the penalty is doubled, and a third offense results in disqualification.
