Shot Put

(Sport: Field Events - Shot Put)

Definition

The shot is a spherical metal ball that a competitor must "put" (throw) from their shoulder as far as possible into a marked sector. Each competitor must put the shot from within the circle, and it must land within a marked sector. Each competitor normally has six puts, and the athlete who puts the shot the farthest wins the event. In the event of a tie, the competitor who has thrown the second-best throw is declared the winner.
