Wide

Definition

Awarded against the bowler if he sends the ball so wide of the wicket or so high over the batsman that he cannot reach the ball. The umpire signals a wide as soon as the ball has passed the line of the striker's wicket, and the batting team is awarded one run as well as an extra delivery in the over.
