No-ball

(Sport: Cricket)

Definition

This is an illegal delivery by the bowler and is called for one of two reasons: either the umpire has deemed the bowler to have thrown the ball instead of bowling it; or the bowler has no part of his front foot grounded behind the popping crease in his delivery stride. The batting team is automatically awarded a run and an extra ball in the over.
